Hymans undertake over 100 valuations each year for business restructures which enable the facilitation of sales of distressed businesses to a new entity or to support a Deed of Company Arrangement.

Partnership Dissolutions

The end of a business partnership can be a tense and complex time. Let Hymans help you navigate your way through with an expert valuation report and our professional advice.

If two or more business are engaged in a merger each business will generally need to be valued so that an appropriate number of shares can be issued in the new entity.

Acquisitions & Sales:
Looking to buy or sell a business? Get in touch with Hymans to make sure all of your bases are covered – including intangibles such as business goodwill and intellectual property.

Where shares in a privately owned business are transferred to a beneficiary after a death it is advisable to undertake a valuation at the date of the transfer for Capital Gains Tax Purposes as this will be the reference point for taxation in the event that the business or shares are sold in the future.

Forensic Advisory

If you have experienced an employee fraud or simply want a business expert to verify the earnings and balance sheet of a business for a purchase, Hymans can help. We conduct forensic investigations to identify the quantum of any fraud, overstated revenue and over or understated expenses, as well related internal control weaknesses.

Common Questions

How much does a business valuation cost?

The cost of a business valuation depends on a number of factors including the purpose of the valuation, the information available, the timeframe, and the values required. Business valuations do not need to cost an arm and a leg. Most of our instructions are in the $5,000 to $7000 (ex GST) range and we rarely see conventional assignments where the valuation costs exceed $10,000.

What is the Hymans turnaround time on business valuations?

The turnaround time of a business valuation depends on the availability of complete and concise company documents. It is also impacted by access to relevant company staff (such as CEOs, CFOs, Directors, etc.) to answer questions and offer clarification.

In most cases, we will be able to provide an accurate timeline once we have reviewed the available information and discussed the scope of the project with stakeholders. As a guide we anticipate 7-15 business days depending on complexity and the quality of the information provided.

Can you give me a “gut feel” valuation?

The short answer is no! Business valuations are complex and detail-oriented. Hymans will need to read and analyse relevant documents such as profit and loss statements, balance sheets, tax returns, budgets and the like to complete a business valuation.
